During the next 36 months the four participants Nexedi, Olimex, Linutronix and Fraunhofer Fokus will work on building an industrial edge as a service (IEaaS) solution for industrial automation using only open source software and open hardware components with the objective to provide an interoperable, automated, accessible and low cost solution for manufacturing.

Press Relase: A European cloud without European software providers?

The Gaia-X project has the potential to have a major impact on the regulation of the cloud market in the world and digital independence in Europe, provided that it integrates a European industrial perspective. It is essential to reduce Gaia-X's dependence on American technologies for which comparable or more advanced equivalents exist in Europe. The Free Software Endowment Fund (FDL) recommends European providers of Cloud, Edge or VRAN technologies to join the Gaia-X project in order to make their technologies and competences visible and to avoid that public funds are used to their disadvantage.

Press Relase: OpenRRH accepted, awaiting for financing

The FDL accepted the project to release the PCB design files of a small Remote Radio Head (rrh) under open source licence. The project was introduced by Rapid.Space which aims to open source the design files of a prototype that has been successfully tested to work with 4G/5G private networks, supports dynamic spectrum sharing and targets factories or small campuses with 2x0.5W MIMO.
